First Look: XPPHONE will run on Windows 8

Let’s admit the fact that in one point of our geeky life, we all have fantasized a phone fully capable of running Windows operating system. However, that illusory idea doesn’t bode too well in the real world since it has been proven many times there’s a valid reason why Microsoft and Apple provided two separate operating systems for Mobile and Desktopcomputers.

However, there’s still some who tried accomplishing such task and one fine example is the ITG xpPhone of last year. And as it name directly indicates, its a phone that runs Windows OS.

While the company obviously had a rough time launching the phone in the mainstream, they haven’t given up the fight yet and as of today, it’s revealing the ITG xpPhone 2. Basically, its serves as the second-generation model of the brandrunning 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 chip (the same used on tablets and netbooks), 112GB SSD Storage, 2GB RAM all previewed on its 4.3-inch display in which the company states it’ll be able to support Windows 7 or Windows 8 depending when will this renegade phone be unveiled.

Naturally, we wouldn’t expect the phone to be as thin as Galaxy S II / RAZR, but despite its strange innards for a “phone”, it manage to pack 18 hours of call time under a new chassis of 17.5mm which is way thinner than its predecessor. Obviously, this is not a smartphone but rather, a “Lilliputian PC” made for Windows. Speaking of which, its release date is expected to hit January next year which serves as a perfect timing to the touch-screen friendly UI ofWindows 8.

Let’s just hope its price would be cheaper than its QWERTY version last year which plays around $800.
