New Species Found In The Philippines

Stephanie Stone, California Academy of Sciences

A treasure trove of hundreds of new species may have been discovered in the Philippines, including a bizarre sea star that feeds exclusively on sunken driftwood and a deep-sea, shrimp-eating shark that swells up to scare off other predators.
Scientists braved leeches and a host of venomous creatures from the mountains to the sea to uncover more than 300 species that are likely new to science. These findings include dozens of new insects and spiders, more than 50 colorful new sea slugs and a number of deep-sea armored corals "which protect themselves against predatory nibbles from fish by growing large, spiky plates," said researcher Terrence Gosliner, dean of science and research collections at the California Academy of Sciences and leader of the 2011 Philippine Biodiversity Expedition.

REAL LIFE NOAH'S ARK

During a fluffy human interest story on Wednesday's NBC Today about a man in Holland who built a full-size replica of the biblical Noah's Ark, correspondent Janet Shamlian turned serious for a moment, wondering: "But how realistic is this Dutchman's dream of doom? Because of global warming, the concept of a flood happening here is not unheard of."
View Video Below
Shamlian touted how "Al Gore predicted as much in the movie, 'An Inconvenient Truth,'" followed by a clip of Gore lecturing in the film: "If Greenland broke up and melted, this is what would happen to the sea level in the Netherlands, absolutely devastating."

NOKIA N9 - IPHONE KILLER

As of today, Stephen Elop finally confirmed that Nokia N9 is indeed a MeeGo Phone and this would serve as the company’s first on the platform. Packing with a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen (854×480 resolution), a 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 processor along with a PowerVR SGX530 GPU – making this device a strong contender against Android’s superphones and iPhone 4 in terms of specs. Meanwhile, it has a 16GB or 64GB integrated memory (no microSD slot), 1GB RAM, quad-band GSM and penta-band WCDMA support making it compatible with almost any frequency on Asia, Europe and North American countries. In addition to that, it has an 8 megapixel camera, capable of recording 720p (HD) videos and shoot pictures in low light (aperture set to F2.2).
Other goodies include WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1 support, GPS, NFC for mobile payment purposes, battery can last up to 4.5 hours while playing video / 11 hours using GSM; will run MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan (the latest for the OS) and its browser supports HTML5.

According to engadget, the Nokia N9 is impressive in terms of its performance and how the MeeGo has matured and blossom into a real mobile UI. On the physical aspects, the device “feels good” to the hand eventhough it’s surrounded by hard plastic.
Expect the Nokia N9 Meego Phone to hit its release date “later this year” and its price should be available on that timeline as well on your local shops.
Check out Nokia N9 Video Impressions.

If you’ll ask us, this is the first real Nokia smartphone that’s similar with the image and likeness of Android and iPhone. No keyboard, no slideout feature, just plain glory on its 3.9-inch slab of touchscreen goodness.

Walk or jog to charge your phone !

The charger is wrapped around the foot from where inertia is derived to make the mechanism work. The complete working method is based on a solenoid. The battery wedged inside the device gets charged when it shakes. This forces the solenoid to generate electricity which is used to power the battery. Technology innovation Walk or jog to charge your phone

The main body of the green charger has been fashioned out of silicon rubber. The rubber can be flexibly turned around our ankle and secured with a Velcro. The cover on the outside of the gadget has been crafted from plastic giving it a tough appeal. So, strap it on your shoe with the help of cords and further secure it with a Velcro. Once the device is in place all you have to do is jog, run or walk so that it gets charged. After this, connect the green cellular charger to your phone and pump some extra life in it as well. Green Cellphone Charger will cut all electricity expenses, and will charge your phones in a unique way while you burn those extra calories.
