Last month, we gave you news that Nokia N9 might be powered by MeeGo instead of Symbian Anna. Likewise, this gave enthusiasts hope that Nokia will still push the MeeGo platform despite the looming trend of its WP7 devices destined for this year.
As of today, Stephen Elop finally confirmed that Nokia N9 is indeed a MeeGo Phone and this would serve as the company’s first on the platform. Packing with a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen (854×480 resolution), a 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 processor along with a PowerVR SGX530 GPU – making this device a strong contender against Android’s superphones and iPhone 4 in terms of specs. Meanwhile, it has a 16GB or 64GB integrated memory (no microSD slot), 1GB RAM, quad-band GSM and penta-band WCDMA support making it compatible with almost any frequency on Asia, Europe and North American countries. In addition to that, it has an 8 megapixel camera, capable of recording 720p (HD) videos and shoot pictures in low light (aperture set to F2.2).
Other goodies include WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1 support, GPS, NFC for mobile payment purposes, battery can last up to 4.5 hours while playing video / 11 hours using GSM; will run MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan (the latest for the OS) and its browser supports HTML5.
According to engadget, the Nokia N9 is impressive in terms of its performance and how the MeeGo has matured and blossom into a real mobile UI. On the physical aspects, the device “feels good” to the hand eventhough it’s surrounded by hard plastic.
Expect the Nokia N9 Meego Phone to hit its release date “later this year” and its price should be available on that timeline as well on your local shops.

If you’ll ask us, this is the first real Nokia smartphone that’s similar with the image and likeness of Android and iPhone. No keyboard, no slideout feature, just plain glory on its 3.9-inch slab of touchscreen goodness.
